Barton Glasser, Visual Journalist
I began my photography career working as a newspaper photojournalist. My résumé includes stints at metropolitan dailies in Denver, Salt Lake City, and Seattle, and as the lead photographer for a few small community publications on Colorado’s rural western slope. I earned my Bachelors of Science in Journalism from the University of Colorado and was selected to participate in the Eddie Adams Barnstorm workshop. Post-grad, I completed a visual-journalism fellowship at the Poynter Institute for Media Studies.
As a native of Western Colorado, I am keen on the issues that impact my community. Beyond community news, sports and profiles, I have covered environmental issues such as natural resource mining and development, the reintroduction of predators on public lands, and water issues surrounding agriculture and recreation. I’ve also worked extensively on social issues focusing on urban growth and development, cannabis legalization, and political refugees living in the West.
Over the years I’ve been a contributor to countless local, national and international publications including The New York Times, USA Today and National Geographic. My images have won awards from The Colorado Press Association, Associated Press, and the National Press Photographers’ Association.
