Jillian and Khalid held their alpine destination wedding at The Peaks Resort in Telluride, Colo., and it was HOT!
I met Jillian in her room at The Peaks and spent some time getting to know and photographing her, her bridal party and soon-to-be mother in law. She was a little nervous but the rosé seemed to help a little. Khalid was getting ready in a room down the hall and it was remarkable how confident and excited he was! They both got together for a short reveal and photo session prior to the ceremony and it seemed to do a lot to calm nerves and set a great mood for the rest of the day.
Guests had gathered on the Altezza Deck and the ceremony began. It was a short service followed by a cocktail hour overlooking Mount Wilson to the west. Did I mention that it was hot? The mid-afternoon summer sun reflected off the white facade and windows of The Peaks and raised the temperature on the deck considerably. It also created some of the most challenging and variable lighting conditions that I have ever experienced in my career!
After cocktail hour dinner was served, conversations were lively, new friends were made and old friends were reunited. Then it was time for dancing. The floor-to-ceiling windows in the Crystal room created a bit of greenhouse effect and the heat was unbearable. Many of the guests congregated outside to allow the room to cool off, which it did just as the sun was setting behind Mount Wilson. It was a perfect setting for a first dance!
